Hamburg COVID-19 Series

WEDNESDAY, 13/1/2021 - 4 pm

Dr. Andrea Zaliani (Frauenhofer IME) will talk about "Rapid identification of ligands and inhibitors of viral proteins using biochemical screening of fragment, lead and drug-like compounds".

Many scientists in the Hamburg metropolitan area are involved in research related to SARS-CoV-2 and the COVID-19 pandemic. In cooperation with the Helmholtz graduate school for Data Science in Hamburg (DASHH), the Leibniz ScienceCampus InterACt wants to increase the visibility of this research fostering new contacts and potential collaborations. Therefore, the new online Hamburg COVID-19 lecture series started on August 12th.

The series represents unique platform for vivid exchange and takes place every two weeks with a 30-minute lecture and room for further discussions afterwards.

On Wednesday, January 13, at 4 pm Dr. Andrea Zaliani (Senior Bioinformatician) will present recent highlights of the COVID-19 research at the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology (IME). His talk is entitled "Rapid identification of ligands and inhibitors of viral proteins using biochemical screening of fragment, lead and drug-like compounds".

Abstract:
The presentation will focus on the SARS-CoV-2 proteins and screenings thereof with fragments and repurposing compound collections performed by Fraunhofer in Hamburg since March 2019. up to now. Results from EU-funded emergency project Exscalate4CoV and from internal collaborations will be presented; among others those with Prof. Ciesek's group in Frankfurt and with Dr. Meents' group at the DESY, Hamburg. The highlight will be on the various hitlist produceds in phenotypic assays in different cell lines and on the results which led Raloxifene into Phase III clinic trials in Italy and South Korea.
