Research Center Borstel – Leibniz Lung Center
The Research Centre Borstel is the lung research centre of the Leibniz Association. The focus is on chronic inflammatory lung diseases such as asthma and allergies, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as well as tuberculosis and other infection-related inflammations of the lung. The overall goal of the interdisciplinary research activities is to elucidate the causes and mechanisms of chronic inflammatory and degenerative lung diseases in order to derive new innovative concepts for their diagnosis, prevention and therapy. More than 550 employees work at the FZB, among others in a research clinic on campus.
Together with the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine and the Leibniz Institute of Virology, the FZB forms the Leibniz Center Infection due to its research content, proximity to the location and membership of the Leibniz Association.
